Whether you plan a stay-cation or you're traveling far away the night before your vacation you are filled with anticipation. You can't wait to start your new adventure tomorrow. Realistically you shouldn't be excited in a good way you should be gripped with fear. Here's what I mean.

If there is one thing most people hate and avoid it's change. You'll go out of your way to continue things that produce results you don't like just so you don't have to change. All because it's more comfortable to get what you're getting than it is to make a change to get what you want.

So given how much you probably don't like change you shouldn't like a vacation. After all most vacations involve both change and something you probably fear even more... uncertainty.

Most of us are creatures of habit and we don't like the unexpected. We expect to pretty much do the same things every day and get the same rewards for doing those things. Even when we aren't all that satisfied with the rewards we get we'd rather know what we can expect rather than deal with uncertainty.

Yet, vacations are full of uncertainty. Will the hotel be nice? Where will we eat? What can we do? Will we have enough money?

Vacations are all about change and uncertainty yet we all love a vacation. I would even venture to say we all need a vacation to recharge.

Why the big difference in attitude?

When you plan a vacation you anticipate change and uncertainty and you view those things you hate on a daily basis as part of the fun of being on vacation.

So... why not view change and uncertainty as part of the fun in selling?

An effective sales strategy demands change. Because no matter how well your sales strategy works today in the near future it will no longer work. Factors beyond your control will change your potential buyer's perception. You are then forced to either change to correspond with their needs, or your sales will decline.

No matter what your sales strategy you will never be able to control the behaviors and beliefs of the people most likely to buy your stuff. Look to these uncertainties with anticipation because this is how you learn to adapt your sales strategy to sell more.
