For homeowners that are well-off enough to afford a summer home, it is probably in their best interest to equip it with a security system to protect it while they are away. Most people would like to have the novelties they possess in their year round house and as a result there are computers and televisions sitting in an empty house for extended periods of time.
In addition to robbers, there are people all over the United States that take pleasure not from stealing, but instead from vandalizing and destroying other peoples possessions. For whatever reason, these individuals destroy public and private property, and for a small monthly fee, a home security system can protect a person's vacation home while they are away.
Nicholas had worked hard to provide his family with a good living. He had a wife and three children and they spent most of their time living in an upscale Boston suburb. Nicholas had come from a blue collar working class family in south Boston. Although it was uncommon in the neighborhood, Nicholas focused strictly on his studies and excelled through high school. His performance earned him a scholarship to Boston College where he also did extremely well and went from there to the Harvard School of Business.
He easily could have had any job he wanted on Wall Street after he graduated but he wanted to stay close to Boston and his family and he got a job at first as an analyst for one of the major banks. He quickly worked his way up the ladder and was making a great living. He bought a house in the suburbs and moved his family away from their downtown apartment. In addition he bought a beautiful log cabin on one of the lakes in Rangeley, Maine. The house was built for year round living so they could make some trips in the winter to go skiing.
The house had three bedrooms and had been built sometime around the 1950's. It had been built before all the environmental protection laws, and had a beautiful boathouse on the shore where Nicholas stored the power boat. In the summer, the family would use the boat and go water skiing and take advantage of the beautiful gorgeous summer days on the lake. At nights they would have bonfires on the shore with the other kids from the area.
One winter weekend they drove up for a school vacation to spend some time skiing. The house was about a half a mile from the main road and after reaching the end of the driveway, they were shocked to find the house with many of the windows smashed out and their belongings strewn all over the yard. Nicholas was furious, but put his anger aside. They had a security system at their house in Boston, but he thought that the woods of Rangeley, Maine, were the last place they would need home security.
They didn't even get out of the car but he turned around and headed for the ski resort to spend the vacation, and fortunately there was still room.
Nicholas reported the vandalism to the local police and the following day he called the local handyman to fix up the house and also his home security provider to set up a system in the Rangeley home. He had worked very hard for everything he had, and he never wanted to come on vacation to find his home destroyed again. Thanks to the home security company he never experienced that feeling again.
